Live Virtual Workshops Around Simple Rules
What are Simple Rules?
Simple Rules are the agreed-upon guides that inform behavior and interactions among members of a Complex Adaptive System. Whether by conscious agreement or by unspoken assent, members of a CAS appear to engage with each other according to a short list of Simple Rules.
Because they shape the dominant patterns among the agents, Simple Rules shape the culture of a complex system. They can emerge from history of interactions and decisions, or Simple Rules can emerge in a short session of intentional planning and decision making.
How can we use Simple Rules?
Teams can use Simple Rules in a number of ways:
They can come together and agree on the patterns they want and establish Simple Rules they believe will shape those patterns.
They can review their work together retrospectively to identify the unspoken Simple Rules that may be in effect. Then the team can choose to continue with the Rules that shape patterns they want, and find new Rules to shape patterns they want to improve.

Ideas are important and consciousness is precious, but they are not enough. Real change in the real world requires action. HSD races beyond abstract understanding to influence the choiceful action of thoughtful and committed people. We are committed to searching for ideas that are useful and actions based on truth. In this workshop, Royce Holladay explores the HSD understanding of “true” and “useful.” You will reflect on your own principles and practices to see where you and your communities thrive in the Interdependent Pair of true and useful.

This workshop demonstrates how the theory and the practice of HSD prepare you to transform yourself and the communities you call home.

Two kinds of exchange are key to the growth and sustainability of the self-organizing system of the HSD Community: Stories and impacts. In this workshop, the community shares their experiences to connect with each other and the HSD theory and practice in real time.
